Spheres

Automated, High-Speed and Low-Speed Precision Polished Optics

Spherical lenses are the most frequently used optical elements, either alone or in various combinations. A simple lens has two spherical surfaces, the centers of curvature of the connector consists of an optical axis of the lens. The shapes of surfaces and their combination creates elements with positive or negative power and change in focal lengths. Simple lenses are often cemented due to suppression of chromatic aberration, or compensation for other imaging defects in pairs - duplicates or multipart bound systems. Spherical lenses can be used to focus a beam, form an image, and collimate or expand a beam of light.

At Clear Align, we manufacture spherical lenses with high surface quality and accuracy, as well as high laser damage threshold optics. We also understand the importance of balancing cost and performance for less demanding applications that still require precision and well controlled manufacturing. That is why our extensive experience in optics includes spherical lenses in a broad range of shapes, materials, focal lengths and diameters, with different quality levels to address the various performance requirements of our customers. In addition to spherical optics we also include spherical mirrors, whose reflective surface is deposited metallic or dielectric reflective layer. Clear Align has the knowledge to understand your needs and supply the best component for your application.

We are particularly focused on custom spherical optics. We have experience working with a variety of other materials using conventional and diamond turning techniques. We can manufacture a lens with the right combination of shape, radius of curvature, diameter, and tolerances to meet your exact requirements for OEM or laboratory use.

High quality antireflection coatings are essential for maximum throughput and power handling for spherical optics, and ours are among the best. We offer a wide range of BBAR and V-coats, and custom coatings. To achieve highest laser damage threshold, we typically recommend V-coat antireflection coatings on laser-grade 10-5 fused silica substrates.
